10th July 2013 - Summer in Cannes
With temperature of 30C, the streets and beaches full of tourists and fireworks displays on every week, it must be the start of summer in Cannes. As usual, the second week of July is when Cannes really gets busy with visitors and this year is no exception. And the city of Cannes has laid on quite a feast of entertainment for the summer. The annual fireworks competition kicked off in spectacular style last thursday with the entry from Azerbaidjan. The competition continues on sunday the 14th, Bastille Day with the entry from Greece. Susequent shows take place in the bay of Cannes on the 21st July, 29th July, 7th, 15th and 24th August with the French entry bringing the competition to a close.
The outdoor classical music event, Les Nuits Musicales du Suquet, takes place this year from the 22-28 july with the spectacular backdrop of the walls of the church of the old town of Cannes. For more contemporary music fans the Palais des Festivals is hosting a rock and dance music festival from the 11th to 13th July which is then followed by Paris danse spectacular The Crazy Horse from the 19th JUly to 24th August.
And finally there is Les Plages Electroniques on the beach by the Palais de Festival from the 3rd July to 14th August. This annual event is a series of nightclub like performances once per week through the summer.
